Listening to the radio today while I was getting ready for the school run, my ears perked up when an advert came on for ‘Change 4 Life’ which is the NHS campaign for encouraging a better lifestyle and it’s slogan is, ‘Eat well Move more Live longer’. It spoke about sugar swaps, as you may be having more sugar than you realise and maybe try swapping it for something else. It then went on to talk about the links cancer, heart disease and type 2 diabetes has with high sugar consumption. We need more of these campaigns!!! Do you really believe there is no link between these diseases and our poor diets?? Are are we all just living in ignorant bliss? It is the easy option after all! I don’t know about you, but I’m surrounded by friends and family who have one condition or another and are even Ill with disease.  If you think about their diet, you can see that there is definitely a link with the state of their health and their diet/lifestyle. Besides all that, we could all do better to improve.
So I continue with preparing my son’s packed lunch and wonder why I always feel guilty about standing my ground when I’m in a situation where my children are offered sugary sweets, chocolates and biscuits and I say, “I’d rather they didn’t actually!” Would I feel the same if someone asked my child to jump off a cliff?? I know it’s an extreme comparison but as a parent you want to protect your child from anything that could jeopardise their health and safety. So why are we so slack on diet?? I’m not just talking about our children though, we all need to look after ourselves to!
