My hair is naturally curly and for years I’ve tried to perfect the straight, smooth and sleek blow dry that has been damaging my hair and curls.

Two year ago my hair was at breaking point, literally! My hair dresser told me that if I continued treating my hair the way I was, with my locks being exposed to constant heat from hair tools, then I would have no hair left. The damage I had caused by then having colour put on to already seriously weak hair was the final straw. Hair broken, thin and totally lifeless, I decided it was time to embrace my curls again!

It’s been a two year journey but I’m so glad I had the patience to nourish and nurture my hair back to good health. I’m now so proud of my curls and I give myself the time to dry my hair naturally. It’s actually really empowering too! Don’t get me wrong I do like to play around every now and again and blow dry it straight but it is an occasion that happens rarely. My hair is still work in progress and in that time I have found some great products that have really elevated my curls.

Here are some of my favourites products that I use regularly and really love.

Ouidad Curl Immersion No-Lather Coconut Cream Cleansing Conditioner

This is a co-wash product which basically means no shampoo. If you’ve heard of the curly girl method, then you will know that this is a method where you only wash your hair using conditioner based products. I use this in between my shampoo washes and I’m always left with gorgeous curls.

Denman Shampoo/ Shower Brush

This is a great brush for massaging the scalp, detangling hair and work your product through your hair. I only use this on wet hair and would never brush my curls when dry.

Micro Fibre Head Towel

Twist wet hair into a micro fibre head towel rather rubbing all over. These towels are great for reducing frizz and absorbing water fast.

Cantu Shea Butter Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream

This product has been great for enhancing my curls and I have been using for the last few years. You really only need a small amount and is great value for money. These products are free of sulphates, parabens and silicones.

Cantu Shea Butter Hydrating Cream Conditioner

I use this conditioner after I shampoo but also in between washes by wetting my hair and working a small amount through the mid-lengths using my Denman brush (linked above).

Here are a few others curly products I’m loving.

  1. Ouidad Curl Energising and Refreshing Spray
  2. Virtue Curl Conditioner
  3. Devines Love Curl Mask
  4. Bouclème Curl Cream
  5. Aveda Be Curly Curl Enhancer
  6. Cantu Cleansing Cream Shampoo
